There was a time when Americans thought it was a civic duty to monitor the government.
I don’t have to tell most of the readers of this newsletter that one of the core purposes of the Constitution was to limit the power of the government.
In the wake of the signing of the Declaration of Independent it seems OBVIOUS that people had god-given rights the government could take.
Fast-forward 250-ish years and many Americans don’t think there are god-given rights.
In fact many think there are only government given rights.
And to them freedom is what the government gives them. Nothing they are entitled too.
Call me entitled but we are entitled to freedom!
And we are also responsible to keep the government in check.
The founders knew governments like to get bigger and bigger and more and more powerful.
The way to stop that is the people.
We know we have to watch the government.
But we have to make it cool and mainstream again.
We and our friend need to be active in making sure the government stays within the boundaries the people set for it.
What are you doing to make this belief more mainstream and normal with your peers?
Shawn
