When did Muhammed Ali win his fights?
Most would probably say in the ring.
But if you had asked Muhammed Ali he would have told you it was won before the first punch was thrown. In the preparation stage.
Mike Tyson, in his prime, was all about preparation.
We can find similar stories throughout life and business.
Why does this matter?
The question to ask yourself is this - how much planning are you putting into your advocacy work?
Are you showing in the ring and throwing punches?
Or are you thinking about how things might go, looking at alternatives and planning for likely pathways to success?
Some will find once they do the planning and research they want to go a completely different direction.
So always plan before acting.
