Today Tom Oltorik of Move Freely America here in Florida sent me an email.
He was beating the drum of civil engagement.
Nothing can be more important.
You need to write, talk to and get information to your elected officials.
Very few do this.
Most of us do it sometimes.
But we also get distracted.
Distracted by fun events with food, and boats, and people, and beer, and whatever else.
Many of these events take a lot of time and don’t move the needle.
Florida is still small enough that your state reps can know you.
Many know me.
Even ones outside of my district.
They see me across the room and waive.
They take time to talk to me.
And sure I run a non-profit but I build the relationships the same way you can: showing up.
And our friends and neighbors need to do this too.
When is the last time you talked your friends or neighbors about how they can engage civically?
Tell me!
Shawn
