Estimate How Much It Will Take - Then Triple It
The old adage has some relevance in advocacy too
There’s an old saying in the investment world that you should take the amount of money you think you’ll need for a company, then double it.
You should do the same for your timeline. Figure out how long you’ll need, then double it.
In politics I believe that the answer is to triple things.
How long is it going to take? Triple it.
How many letters do you need to write? Triple it.
How many meetings will you need? Triple it.
We just need to keep going.
Recently I’ve been blessed to be working with an amazing team of advocates on one of their projects.
It’s taking longer than expected.
They are getting the political run-around.
But they are looking for new ways to get to their goals.
That’s what it is all about.
You learn. You grow. You improve.
Keep at it - and just know you might have to work a bit longer than you initially anticipated.
