There’s some confusion on SB 7014 and it’s impact on freedom.
So let’s get into it:
SB 7014 will extend hospital indemnity of Florida Statute 768.381 through June 2023. The liability protections of 768.381 only kick in when the health care provider follows "government-issued health standards".
This basically means doctors get off if the follow the CDC's Covid guidelines (which many say aren't working) or other government issued guidelines and are at risk if they try anything else. Many alternate or emerging treatment plans that are showing success haven’t made it to the level of being government-issued health standards.
And, generally, it takes a while before anything makes it to the level of “government-issued health standards”.
And that’s the worry right now. This bill will discourage medical innovation.
And most importantly we think it prevents people - and their families - from getting the treatments they believe in.
